Heidelberg- The murder which took place on Wednesday 29/03/2023 at Rensburg where a local Pastor was murdered in an attempt to help a men knocked down by a car was heard today at Heidelberg Magistrate Court has been postponed to next week Tuesday 06/04/2023 at 08H30. The judge presiding over the case heard statements from both the state and the accused lawyer. The state started by requesting a postponement of the court date due to not being able to finish their investigation on the matter. The accused lawyer then made the submission to the court that his client is suffering from chronic diseases and requested the court to not take the accused to Heidelberg Correctional Centre but be kept at a police station cell for the fear of his life and for his medical treatment. The state argued that if the accused is kept at a police cell, that will make it easy for the community to access him. The Judge decided to postpone the case to next week Thursday 06/03/2023 at 08H30, he further decided that the accused will be in police custody and be kept at Heidelberg Correctional Centre until his bail application. Community leaders who were part of the protesting community outside the court requested the community to come in numbers on Thursday to support the fight against racism in Heidelberg. Speaking to one of the community leaders he said the community is angry and wants justice for the Shaba family and for the community at large. ''We are angry and we want justice for Pastor Shaba and the community of Ratanda, Heidelberg is one of the racist areas in SA and nothing is done about that, we want an end to this racism and live free in our area'' Community member came in numbers to support the family of Pastor Shaba and carrying placards calling for no bail for the accused and an end to racism. The community then marched on the main street of Heidelberg Voortrekker street going towards Ratanda where they are going to pray at the house of Pastor Shaba.
